When someone takes that first job with some governmental agency, does that result in an immediate degrading of their functional IQ? If so, Koch-conservatives are right: “the government cannot ever get it right.” The seven most feared words should be: “I'm from the government here to help.”
But, if that is the case, what sense does it make for them to be up-in-arms about what is happening at the VA? Shouldn't they expect the VA to be dysfunctional if dysfunction is what government is good at? Pity or forgiveness might be in order.... but not outrage!
But this brand of conservatism wants it both ways. They want to hammer government leaders for alleged incompetence while spreading the calumny that we should never expect anything else from a government employee. This is nonsense. What makes sense?
This is really not about government employees. It is about those who hire them: the voters. It is saying that American democracy does not work! That we, the People, cannot be trusted to govern ourselves.
But who can be trusted if not the People? Well, I'm sure that the Koch brothers would love to fill the gap. That's got to work. Right?
